Enhancing skills program starts in Nepal

Yuvraj was very intrigued with the essence of Active Citizens Training that is using local resources and making a difference. His SAP revolved around imparting training to local individuals on making various items out of bamboo such as Muda (bamboo chair), decoration pieces etc. He also trained them in using the bamboo roots to craft birds’ nest instead of wasting them. This training was given to 10 individuals and they are now fully involved in earning a wage from 5000 to 10000.

He also trained 20 individuals in Mushroom farming through which many are making a reasonable living. The first Mushroom farming season is already finishing and these trained individuals are now preparing for the second season. Apart from this, Yuvraj has been running Open-Defecation Free Campaigns in various schools. He has also been running forestation programs and vegetable farming training where farmers are earning up to 4000 to 5000. Female figures of the community have been trained with sewing their own undergarments.

This SAP has enabled the youth in his community with an opportunity of receiving trainings and hence developing their skills and capabilities. It has enabled them to stand on their own and become economically independent. They have overcome their frustrations and malpractices such as alcoholism, drug abuse, cigarette smoking etc. and are utilizing their time, energy and skill productively. Many families have identified their new sources of income.
